RM WILLIAMS BOOTS

 Written by John Flanagan

VERSE

Something I’ve noticed moving around is that country clothing is coming to town

And these city folk in their urban pursuits are wearing RM Williams Boots

Bought em out in the bush they wouldn’t know what to do

Well they’d die of fright if a cow went moo,

But they’re staying in touch with their pioneer roots wearing RM Williams Boots

CHORUS

One piece of leather with a seam in the back, you can have them in brown you can have ‘em in black

Feel like you’re living in the far outback in your RM Williams Boots

VERSE

Accountants wear ‘em, number crunches, admin to for doing the lunches

And computer types just can’t compute without their RM Williams Boots

Gambler’s wear ‘em in casinos, Yuppies wear ‘em sipping’ Finos

And Paddington Ladies who drink cappuccinos wear RM Williams Boots

VERSE

Saw a lawyer type defending a robber in his wig and gown and all of that clobber

And they put up an argument they couldn’t refute in their RM Williams Boots

Well the judge heard the verdict and slammed! Down the hammer

He said I can’t send this man to the slammer his as guilty as sin but I don’t give a hoot

He wears RM Williams Boots

VERSE

Psychiatrists wear em and merchant bankers stock brokers too and all of those w*&%!rs

They punce around like a bunch of galoots in their RM Williams boots

Brain surgeons wear em for hacking out tumours and zoo attendants wear em for feed in’ the pumas

And I’ve actually heard you can wear em for riding a horse ……….but that’s gotta be a bloody rumour

In your RM Williams Boots

BRAND NEW DADDY

VERSE

You and I were so in love we could do nothing wrong

Till the ego got a hold on you so that didn’t last too long

I’ve tried to patch things up, so I added a little spark

Then whoopsy daisy we planted a tree in the park

CHORUS

You gonna be a brand new daddy your gonna be a father soon

I don’t know how to tell you mother natures in bloom

You’ll be changing nappy’s, waking up in the middle of the night

You gonna be a brand new daddy, whether its wrong or right

VERSE

I said: I got a bun in the oven; you thought I was cooking bread

I told you I’m up the duff; you thought beer instead

Oh the doctors is on Tuesday it’ll prove to be

Another one of him, Oh god help me

VERSE

I seen missy-jo at the supermarket, she pulled me near

She said you’d been talking sweet things, whispering in her ear

You go out the boys, drinking out real late

Well grow up boy you got a baby on the way

 VERSE

How excited my momma will be when we share the news

Your daddy will just tell you how you wrecked your youth

Guess will have to go get married no more one night stands

Better go to the pawn shop and by me a wedding band

TAG

If your gonna play with fire boy you will get real burnt

You gonna be a brand new daddy, whether its wrong or right

MODERN DAY SWAGGIE

 Written by Bec Hance

VERSE

Where have you been Mr. Man, where have you travelled?

Where have you laid your bed?

With your swag on your back, and no money in your pack

With your beard so long and your sunny tan

Have you counted the stars in the sky?

How many did you get are hiding from your lies

How many times have you hitchhiked?

Who have you met in your travels?

Well why’d you picked this life

CHORUS

When you’re walking around the heart of Australia,

Did you run away because you were a failure?

Did you listen to waltzing maltilda as a kid?

Oh modern day swaggie yeah modern day swaggie

VERSE

Tell me do your feet get sore, does walking around like you do

Do you ever get bored?

Cowboy hat on your head, a lot stories unsaid

Tobacco in your mouth, hair long as a lout

How do you take a photograph, of all the pretty places?

When did you last have a bath?

VERSE

Do you have any worries in your life?

Where do you when the sun goes down, does anyone give you any strife

Do you not work cause you don’t have to

Does time go quickly, are we better off like you

OLD FASHIONED STUFF

 Written by Bec Hance

VERSE

People ask me what kind of country do I sing

Its rock, is it pop or it that slim dusty thing

Can you dance to it, can you tap to it,

Can you cry or you can you laugh to it

Can you boot scoot to it, or western swing

CHORUS

I say – I’m proud of my country,

It’s not quite that modern, it don’t honky tonk enough

There are no deep lyrics, I don’t bash out big guitars

It’s not alternative or rock, just that old fashioned stuff

VERSE

I got three songs in a song, that’s all I’ll need.

And if listen to the gambler, you’ll know what I mean

Not part of no new generation, don’t do it for an occupation

Just trying to preserve that sweet sound

VERSE

My country it’s laid back and quiet

And it’s not because I’m old or retired

But who cares anyway if it sounds country it’s played

You don’t have to put me in a box

CHORUS

I say – I’m proud of my country, it maybe a little rough

It’s not quite that modern, it don’t honky tonk too much

There are no deep lyrics, or bash out big guitars

It’s not alternative or rock, just that old fashioned stuff

Its my style of country, that old Fashioned Stuff

VERSE

ALBERT CAMPBELL

Written by Bec Hance and Vaughan Baker

VERSE

Albert Campbell began life in Tassie, at Weetah just near Deloraine

From a poor family of 14 children, at school it was learn or be caned

When 19 his brother named Vincent, found a job for him on the mainland

As the 2nd World War was just ending, Albert’s life of adventure began

The job entailed all kinds of farm work, but also some trips overseas,

Taking horses and most types of livestock, exported from there on the ships

To ports spread across the pacific, in Malaysia, Hong Kong and Japan

From a farm called Four Oaks of East Melbourne, where now suburbs of Dandenong stand

CHORUS

We salute Albert Campbell, role model to all, true gentlemen

He was raised a horsemen, a boxer a teacher of skills, perfected in hard bygone days

VERSE

One of Albert’s great loves was boxing, fit and strong then to him it was fun

He was not one to hate his opponents, or seek the limelight when he won

In his job he learned breaking horses, and also wild donkeys and mules

He was given the task of farm butcher and learned pride and good work with hand tools

Albert stayed on and soon become foremen, for his exporter boss William Jones

Then he married his lovely wife Beryl, and in time it seemed luck was against them

For years it seemed luck was against them, with the wolf never far from the door

On their dairy farm life was a struggle, as the offspring then numbered four?

VERSE

Albert’s skills become many and varied, like lots of bush folk of his day

He built post and rail fencing neatly; it appeared it had grown there that way

He made whips bred and trained dogs and horses, and worked Clydesdales and collars and hames

But he saw all the old skills were dying, and to Albert this seemed such a shame

So with two other like minded bushmen, once his working life slowed down in pace

Founded pioneer skills of Australia, to preserve all the old dying ways

They gave heritage skills demonstrations, and his trick horse thrilled all the crowds

An award for his great contribution, hangs proudly on Albert’s wall now

IF ONLY YOU (WERE MORE LIKE THE DOG)

 Written by Bec Hance

VERSE

He doesn’t care at all how I look; he eats everything that I cook

My folks love him, unlike you

He doesn’t yell at me when I walk in the door: or if my clothes are left scattered all across the floor

He hates vacuum cleaners just like me

I don’t have to fetch his beer or play darts; He doesn’t care if I’m dirty or even if I fart

If only you, were more like the dog

CHORUS

He’s my best friend from the start; He’ll never ever break my heart

He does his own thing when I’m gone, and he’s so glad to see me when I come home

If only you – were more like the dog, if only you – were more like the dog

VERSE

The worse disease I can get from him is fleas; He wants to go everywhere with me

He can be trained, unlike you

Dogs are far less likely to complain; He don’t care if I call him by another name,

If only you were more like the dog

BRIDGE

He, He, knows what I mean

Ain’t it a shame, how we both feel the same

VERSE

If he gets a little randy I get out the hose, he won’t fight me for the remote control

He gets excited when I play rough, (why you ain’t that tough)

He will never want to leave or roam, I don’t have to call when I’m late home

If only you were more like the dog

NOTHING MORE TO SAY

 Written by Bec Hance

VERSE

Still there’s nothing More to say, I’ve packed my things and moved away

It was time to go

You called me up the other day, in your usual negative way

You wanted to play

PRECHORUS

You’ve gone and got your self a brand new girl one like me you’ll wreck her world

Turn it upside down

You can go and abuse her and you can use her just like you did me

Then she’ll know what heartaches all about

Don’t call me I’ll you I know you don’t think were through

You can’t except that I’m gone forever gone

And the simple truth is I wanted you to leave me for years

I finally got the courage to do it myself

CHORUS

Still there’s nothing more to say, it’s your life you waste away

It’s your life you waste when I’ve got nothing more to say

VERSE

Still there’s nothing more to say, I blocked your number today,

Things will never change

No more games inside my head, thinking ‘bout what you said

A stranger made

PRECHORUS

Go and tell your mates I slept with blokes in town, took your money when you were down

Deny the truth

A broken record goes round and round; you spite the new love that I’ve found

You can just blame you

Don’t call me I’ll you I know you don’t think were through

You can’t except that I’m gone forever gone

The simple truth is I wanted you to leave me for years and years

I finally got the courage to do it myself

CHORUS

Still there’s nothing more to say, it’s your life you waste away

It’s your life you waste when I’ve got nothing more to say

Still there’s nothing more to say, it’s your life you waste away

Its you’re life you waste, when you’ve got nothing more to say

Nothing more to say, Oh Nothing Nothing Nothing

Nothing more to say.

OLD LADY

 Written by Bec Hance

VERSE

Old lady in the pink house, in the oven’s valley

She’s almost a stranger, but she invites me in

She’s tall and she bows, white hair but she glows

She says it’s quiet and glad that I showed

VERSE

Old lady in the pink house, oh as bright as can be

Sits me down on the white chair, and talks of family

Way up here all alone, without worry I don’t know

She says life was different, twenty years ago

CHORUS

Old lady in the pink house, down in the oven’s valley

If I stop into her, she’ll make a cup of tea

She’s an old lady, but she’s more than grey and wrinkly

I want to be just like her, when I’m an old lady

VERSE

Old lady in the pink house, in no neighbourhood

I fill up her wheelbarrow with some firewood

Shows me her garden and her cat, good times in happy snaps

And her Pianola, it takes her back in time

VERSE

One in thirteen, all the rest have gone,

Talks about her childhood, how selfish I’ve become

After the 4th cup of tea, I really must be going

More memories flood in and I don’t want to leave

TAG

I want to be strong like her when I’m an old Lady

I want to be just like her, when I’m an old lady

I want to be just like her, when I’m an old lady

THE GOOD SONG

By Bec Hance and Vaughan Baker

VERSE

I’ve just performed a song I wrote at the gidgee coal awards

When Jammo with a serious Look upon his face, came forward

He said that last song you sung that brought so much applause

I’d like to know who wrote that song it’s too good to be yours

PRECHORUS

Did it come from Kelly Dickson to you? From the masters hand

The greatest writer of bush ballads of this land

Or is it from Joe Daly’s pen you chase it well if it is

It’s not the great Stan Costers work for I know all of his

CHORUS

No No Bloody wonder, I wrote this good song and no one believes that it’s me

No No bloody wonder, give me a break from these blues

VERSE

It’s rhymes  so amazing that it could be Ray Rose

Slim Jones or Norma Murphy well it could be one of those

For a Malt man, Quinn or Jackson it near could be mistook

Or did you find those great lines in some Keith Galway book

PRECHORUS

It’s something like a song or too that Eric Watson Wrote

Or brooks or Jewel, or Oliver all balladeers of note

It could by Rick Aitchison Trevor Day or Peter Coad

Or one by the late Jim Kylie to Reg Poole he never showed

VERSE

It could be by the Currawong or Wally Grammells pen

Or even from Joy Mckean bypassed from Slim back then

Why the stories so engaging and the melodies so fine

With minimal improvement it could even pass for mine

CHORUS

No No Bloody wonder, I wrote this good song and no one believes that it’s me

No No bloody wonder, give me a break from these blues

Then Jammo grin and added as he gave my cheek a peck

You know I’m only joking keep writing good songs – Bec

HAPPY YODELLING COWGIRL

  By June Holmes

I’m a happy cowgirl yodelling all the day

Yodel

My home is on the prairie where the Longhorn’s cattle stray

Yodel

I have no cares or worries no matter where I roam

You’ll always hear me yodelling down the trail to home sweet home

Yodel, Yodel, Yodel

When the weary day is over and the sun sinks in the west

Yodel

Seated round the campfire singing songs I love the best

Yodel

Cowboys gather round me as I strum my old guitar

You’ll always hear me yodelling no matter where we are

YODEL

HEAR ME LORD

 written by Pam Thomasson

VERSE

Hear Me lord, for I know not what I do

Hear Me lord, let me spend my life with you

I am human, And lord I sin each day

So forgive me, as I stumble on my way

CHORUS

Hear me lord I beg of thee hear me lord and let me see

That You will give your love forever more

Hear Me lord, on knees I pray

Hear Me lord, show me the way, to the path that leads me to your heavenly door

VERSE

Hear me Lord, I am lost please rescue me

Hear Me Lord; Let me find my strength in thee

I am humble and lord I’m so alone

Let me stand forever by your heavenly throne

VERSE

Hear me Lord, please reach out and take my hand,

Hear Me Lord, guide me to your promised land

I am weary, So when my life is through

Lord please let me spend eternity with you

I am weary, so when my life is through

Lord please let me spend eternity with you

Hear Me Lord

THE DOG THAT HE CAN

VERSE

The old man’s place after dark, has a dog that barks and barks

Never gets off the chain, the neighbour’s always complain

As the police I come around, Hey that dog’s disturbing the town

The old man replies, he’s just biding his time

VERSE

See he can’t figure out, how to muster the sheep about

His tail wags when I walk by, and he lets out a little cry

Sits up on his hind legs, desperate for caress

CHORUS

Spends his years on a chain, doesn’t know who to blame

But the old man’s Arrogance,

Spends life on hold, to do what his told

His always there, the dog that he can

But at his masters command he does what he can

VERSE

Oh I swear he dreams, he dreams that he free

And his ruffled hair, is stroked and his cared.

And he gets more than just dry,

And he gets more than a chance, to be the dog that he can

Spends his life hoping, that one day he’ll turn

That the stroke of his hand, won’t be with stern command

That his more than slave, More like good mates

The old man won’t feel alone, his house will be more like a home

He’ll be by his side, keep him warm at night

Be more than he am, he’ll be the dog that he can

He’ll be than he what he is; He’ll be the dog that he can

And don’t get through, He don’t trust him round me and you

Cause he’s hardly been spared, a day off the chain around here

He needs much more love

VERSE

One day old man passed away, the dog was left on the chain

I attended the scene, when the dog looked up at me

I unleashed that chain, let him go from the reins

But him in the back of the car, took him home for a new start

And he never looked back, at the dusty dark track

Now he has a life of care, he can be dog that he can

There’s more than care, he can be the dog that he can

And he runs when I call, obsessed with chasing a ball
