The Ox And The Princess

Once upon a time down a little track called Hance Lane
Was a big tall ox all shy and lonely, looking for a lady friend
One night he hit the jackpot and an old high school dance
When he saw the girl of his dreams and made a little romance
Just like beauty and the beast, Shrek and Fiona it's a fairytale kinda life
There's been a few wicked witches, a few simple fights
They've got a house on the hill with a picket fence a dog that will soon have friends
They're made for each other the ox and the princess

They spend their time together watching movies and holding hands
And she'll sit on his lap while he drives his tractor as they make up baby names
Hell take her out shopping to buy whatever the things she wants
Cause she's as pretty as a princess and he knows its her he wants

Just like beauty and the beast Shrek and Fiona it's a fairytale kinda life
Except there's no wicked witches dragons, just a few simple fights
They've got a house on the hill with a picket fence a dog that will soon have friends
They're made for each other the ox and the princess

Just like beauty and the beast Shrek and Fiona it's a fairytale kinda life
Except there's no wicked witches dragons, just a few simple fights
They've got a house on the hill with a picket fence a dog that will soon have friends
They're made for each other the ox and the princess

GIRLS LIKE ME

The phone won't ring, the stars won't shine
The car won't start, the mail's not mine
My eyes won't sleep, my voice can't sing
I curse my mum cause the phone ring

My hats pulled down, my legs won't pace
All these pimples have shown on my face
I'm in a daze mentally confused
Of all the reason's why you blew the fuse

Cause I'm in love with an angel above
Pity my heart can't tell from diamonds or dust
I'm the fool for boys like you
Who steal and cheat........Girls like me

I spill my coffee, I fall head over Heels
I ran off the road, cause you the cut the deal
I got butter fingers I can't think straight
I turn to food and I've put on weight

Cause I'm in love with an angel above
Pity my heart can't tell from diamonds or dust
I'm the fool for boys like you
Who use and deceive........Girls like me

I always seem to get the one's that lie I feel like I'm on a string of wire
Then they leave me in the dark without saying goodbye

Cause I'm in love with an angel above
Pity my heart can't tell from diamonds or dust
I'm the fool for boys like you
Who use and deceive........Girls like me
Who steal, cheat, use and deceive, Girls like me

BIG RED BELLY BLACK

Lyrics by Libby Barter

While sitting on my rocking chair one early summer's morn,
There I saw it lying in the middle of my lawn
A big red belly black was soaking in the sun
Enjoy it while you can I said, your days are nearly done
He raised his head then yawned and laid back on the ground
He didn't seem to care at all that he had been found
I went inside to get my gun and end his little game
I'll blow you clean in half I thought then calmly took my aim
But when the dust had cleared away I looked down at the ground
That bloody snake had vanished; he was nowhere to be found

Then by the gate there was a hole I saw him slip inside
I got you now you blackened beast I'll buy you alive
I filled the hole with rocks and twigs and jammed it up real tight
Then headed back toward my seat smiling with delight
But soon my grin had faded and I could only stare
That bloody snake was back again underneath my chair
I went into the shed for a shovel and a pick
I'll chop that bloody snake into a 1000 little bits
With the shovel high above my head I thought I had him beat
But just before I took my swing he slid beneath my feet

I must have jumped 6 foot at least my heart was beating hard
I turned to see that snake half way across the yard
He came to rest upon a log and slid down through a crack
That snake has got more lives than the next door neighbor's cat
But this time there was no way out I grabbed my box of matches
I lit one up and threw it in and watched it burn to ashes
But in my rush I failed to see the fence was way to close
And with a single spark that flew it disappeared in smoke
There wasn't much that I could do except to watch it burn
But decided it was worth it just to see the bugger squirm
Satisfied that he was gone I had my final laugh HA HA
But when I turned around it was back there on the grass

I raised my hands into the air as if to call defeat
That snake was much to smart for me I knew he had me beat
He raised his head and looked at me as if to show no fear
Then I swore I saw that snake grin from ear to ear
I shook my head in disbelief he slowly turned away
The time will come I said out loud will meet another day
Now I've seen a lot of snakes since then but none as smart as that
So rest assure I won't forget that Big Red Belly Black.

PRODUCT OF AUSTRALIA MADE IN CHINA

I went down to the local store to buy myself some fruit
But the store's shut down because business wasn't good
Local industry has closed its doors 300 jobs lost or more
They make it cheaper by going overseas

Product of Australia made in China
Take a Look on the label you will find
Check the tag on your new clothes
That's all it will be when you get old
Its long term notice but I feel strongly about it
What kind of future will our children have?
When Farmers Go Bad

I look for the green flag to buy Australian made
But the products seem to slowly fade away
The farmer growing fruit and veggies seems to chase his tail
With imports undercutting all his sales

Product of Australia made in China
Take a Look on the label you will find
Check the tag on your new clothes
That's all it will be when you get old
Its long term notice but I feel strongly about it
What kind of future will our children have
When Farmers Go Bad

I will sing true blue till I'm blue in the face
I will hang my head in shame
If all big companies halve their profits
This problem will change

Product of Australia made in china
We'll rely on imports to survive
What a waste of land our country is
When money's more important than our kids
Its long term notice but I feel strongly about it
What kind of future will our children have?
When Farmers Go Bad
Farmers Go Bad
Farmers Go Bad

MAKE HAY 'TILL THE SUN DON'T SHINE

Daddy called on the radio, he said "bring me down the tool box
I got shear bolt gone and the rain's coming across"
When the Fiat broke down it was no good "cause the Massey was unreliable
And it's funny how machines don't break in the spring, the spring"

When the clutch goes down the mower goes round
We're gonna take a little while but we'll get it all out
Its go go go with all our might we're gonna work 14 hours till the end of the night
When the hay is pressed and stacked in the shed
We'll take a deep breath and wipe off the sweat
Hard working hay makin' time is here
We're gonna, make hay till the sun don't shine this year

The rollabar's been going since eight o'clock today,
And it does ok for a twenty year old rake
Dadd's out lifting bales to see how much they weigh
'Cause you got trouble when you stack and shed wet hay, wet hay

When the clutch goes down the mower goes round
We're gonna take a little while but we'll get it all out
Its go go go with all our might we're gonna work 14 hours till the end of the night
When the hay is pressed and stacked in the shed
We'll take a deep breath and wipe off the sweat
This hard working hay makin' time is here

We're gonna, make hay till the sun don't shine this year
The AC's broken and the PTO gruntin' in the 65:90
But well forget about that we'll have five-hundred acres done by Friday
My brother and his mates are settin' up the truck, the elevator's set
And when I'm finished this paddock, I'll probably have to drive for them, for them

When the clutch goes down
We'll get it all out and it's go go go
Hard workin' time is here.

GET BACK ON

I can break this silence, I can hold these tears
Cause when I fall to the ground, that's where my heart is
I can hold my head high, like an old stubborn mare
You won't make me fall, but if I do, I won't care

Every time I see the light I cry every time I hold the reins I sigh
'Cause I know you're gonna try to hurt me again
Every time I'm winded by the pain I know to stand on two feet again
Get back on, Get back on

My blood boils inside me, but I try to hide
I don't won't to show my anger, to cause more of a fight
The jackasses laugh around me, as I stumble in the drain
But the spirits calling me, to get back, get back on again

Every time I see the light I cry every time I hold the reins I sigh
'Cause I know you're gonna try to hurt me again
Every time I'm winded by the pain I know to stand on two feet again
Get back on

How am I gonna find the strength to get back on
When I've fallen off almost a 1000 times
How am I gonna find the road where I come from
When I've been traveling down this bush track most of my life

Although now I'm older, I'm none the wise
I can feel it coming, but I stay in denial
The landing seems harder, but I know what to expect
But sometimes its like, bindi's have gone through my chest

Every time I see the light I cry every time I hold the reins I sigh
'Cause I know you're gonna try to hurt me again
Every time I'm winded by the pain I know to stand on two feet again
Get back on
Yeah get back on, you gotta get back on.

THE OUTBACK SONG

I got this brigalow itch, its all over me
These mosquitos think I'm a tee-tree
And flies over here keep buzzin in my ear
I went for a shower and accompanyied me
Were two green frogs who came for a clean
The window sill sat brown snake for a sunbake

This Gogango dirt seems to stick to my shirt
I can't find the fire cause it's so damn hot
There's Mexican in me its plain to see
I wanna go back, after moving to the outback
I wanna go back, down south, I wanna go back
After moving to the outback

When the rain comes down it comes down in droves
I've never seen so much let go
They must rain dance only once a year in QLD
Put my feet in the creek for a skinny dip
Mr. Croc came along for a bit of a nip
Keep on runnin' over cane toads on the road

The red dust keeps a swirling in the wind
Gets up my nose keeps makin me sneeze
There's Mexican in me its plain to see
I wanna go back, after moving to the outback
I wanna go back, down south, I wanna go back
After moving to the outback

Went roundin' up cattle to put in the stockyard
The Brahman bull came at me full charge
I'm 100km's from any medical service
Gotta ride through the bush to get to the cruiser
Drive into to town with half bunged fingers
And itchy grub itch making me shiver

I wanna go back, down south, I wanna go back
After moving to the outback
This country girl, wants to go down south,
go down the track, After moving to the outback,
I wanna go back after moving to the outback

COUNTRY EASY HOME LIVIN' LIFE

The street lights are on and I locked the front door
The neighbour's dog are barking they seem to yell a lot more
And the TV seems the only thing to do
You can't just grab your swag and go and sleep under the moon

So I think about.......
The silence of the night and quiet of the day
And that fresh air that can take my breath away
To see my dad smile as I walk into the house
The bulls marking their place and Joe and his howls

I miss my country easy home living life
I miss the rain talk the cattle prices and mums' meat pies
I miss the quiet star sleep overs, the dog and even my brothers
And the tractor that starts up at five
I miss my country easy home living life

I'm so close yet I'm so far away and it's been ages since I've been to Pa's place
The stories the laughter and the simple life
Makes me wonder why I'd leave it all behind

I miss my country easy home living life
I miss the rain talk the cattle prices and mums meat pies
I miss the quiet star sleep overs, the dog and even my brothers
And the tractor that starts up at five
I miss my country easy home living life

I know I got attitude when I'm not secure
Cause these lights lines and signs make me wanna go back for more

I miss my country easy home living life
I miss the rain talk the cattle prices and mums meat pies
I miss the quiet star sleep overs, the dog and even my brothers
And the tractor that starts up at five
I miss my country easy home living life
I miss my country easy home living life

OLD FASHIONED LIFE

He bent down on one knee and he asked her to dance
So they waltzed all night and he held her hand
Now they're poppin' pills and doin' it all wrong
Winding up in nobody's house that they know
I shouldn't have said it but it's all that I see
The way it was and how its meant to be

I wanna run, back to that place where everyone smiled and brought homemade cakes
I wanna hear that old country beat where everyone danced and tapped their feet
Back to that place no one today knows, back to that place oh where did it go
Run back to that old fashioned life

He went huntin' with his mates and they took a couple of rifles
But the land's now closed and their trip was a trifle
You need a licence for your guns a licence to shoot
Registration for your dogs and no bullbars on your utes
I shouldn't have said it but it's all that I see
The way it was and how its meant to be

I wanna run, back to that place
Where people's values were all the same
I wanna hear the dogs in the trees
Chasin' the foxes and rabbits for a meal
Back to the place no one today no one, back to the place oh where did it go
Run back to that old fashioned life

His son turned 13 today, and said dad I wanna help on the land
His dad said I'd like you to son, but the law says under 16's are banned
I wanna run, back to that place
I wanna run, back to that place
I wanna run, back to that place

Where everyone helped no matter what age
I wanna hear the kids in the breeze
Where laughs are from playin' and not TV
Back to the place where the bush is free, back to the place is where I wanna be

Run back to that old fashioned life
Old fashioned life,
Old fashioned life

BORN ON THE MURRAY

Words by Libby Barter, Lyrics by Bec Hance

Born and raised in a country town, Where the Murray flows beside
With levees for protection when the river stretches wide
Heavy rains from up above, will keep her running strong
And the banks around her tremble, as she swiftly moves along

Her personality changes with every bend she rides
And many lives are taken by the danger that she hides

She was born on the Murray there's a risk you see
Just like the flood back in 53 there's strong currents and movement of debris
But see her as a challenge see her as a guide she's so damn pretty if you open your eyes
There's more than muddy water and body, Born on the murray

Underneath are hidden snags and holes that pull you down
Then you are swept away by rivers underground
She spreads across this land where the banks no longer hold
Resolution for her Freedom can never be controlled

But look beyond her anger there's a hidden charm
Understand her movements and she'll bring to you no harm

She was born on the Murray there's a risk you see
Just like the flood back in 53 there's strong currents and movement of debris
But see her as a challenge see her as a guide she's so damn pretty if you open your eyes
There's more than muddy water and body. Born on the Murray

She was born on the Murray there's a risk you see
Just like the flood back in 53 there's strong wind currents and movement of debris
But see her as a challenge see her as a guide she's so damn pretty if you open your eyes
There's more than muddy water and body. Born on the Murray, Born on the Murray

Devoted to her journey she'll never stop to rest
The art of her creation is one of nature's best
So respect her way of life and you'll see what she can give
A Murray river town is the only place to live

I'M TOO COUNTRY

I'm sitting in this bar staring at my empty glass
Don't mind a cold one after a hard day's work (fasten tempo)
I get looked down on, cause I wear pointy boots instead of thongs
The yobbos take my hat and throw it across the room
Little man with a puffy coat put the jukebox way on high
Something with a lotta bass, something about getting high

I'm Too country, Too country
Too country for this bar
I'm Too country, Too country
Too country for this

I'm living in this town there's nothing' but city sounds
All I hear in my head is the song Tar and cement
Well grandpa was right, its tough in the bush and money is tight
But value for money is all about where you live
When the sun comes up tomorrow I might just get out of here
If I didn't need the money you wouldn't need to convince me

I'm Too country, Too country
Too country for this town
I'm Too country, Too country
Too country for this town

Gotta get back home where people want know my name
I might have things of value but I cant seem to hide my shame

I'm Too country, Too country
Too country for this town
Too country, Too country
Too country for this town
Got my bags packed the dogs in the back he's ready to go
Got the smell of freedom where those green hills roll
Got Mr Dwight Yoakam on that radio

I'm Too country, Too country
Too country for this bar
I'm Too country, Too country
Too country for this town

WHERE IS WALTZING MATILDA?

Remember the swaggie whose billy boiled
At the billabong where his life unfoiled
The story about a man who stole a sheep
A song that's known a song we keep

What does it mean to be Australian?
A question I ask with no answer
Hearing that song it comes to me
A feeling of home a feeling of free

What about the forests they keep shutting down
No more will I go roaming around
What about the plans to change the flag
Where is Waltzing Matilda

What about the hardship what about the wars
What about ancestors gone before
How much history do we know today?
What sacrifices others have made

It's hard to see or hear the news
I go outside and stare at the moon
It was easier when I was naive
And didn't have to feel the fear

What about the forests they keep shutting down
No more will I go roaming around
And the land don't appreciate
Where is Waltzing Matilda

I feel proud when I sing this anthem out loud
I'm strong and I know where I belong

What about the forests they keep shutting down
No more will I go roaming around
Why does money have to be the driving force
Where is Waltzing Matilda
Where is Waltzing Matilda
Where is Waltzing Matilda

Remember the swaggie whose billy boiled
At the billabong where his life unfoiled
The story about a man who stole a sheep
A song that's known a song we keep
